چکیده

The study of the antigenic properties of lipoidai substances extracted from antigenic material by alcohol, ether, or other fat solvents has included investigation of the significance of lipoidal constituents of the red blood cell in the formation of lysins and agglutinins, the action of alcoholic extracts of organs in the production of heterogenetic antibodies and their reaction with Forssman's antigen, and, finally, of the specific nature of such lipoidal fractions obtained from bacterial cells. Until recently, experimental work on the bacterial cells had been limited almost entirely to the immune reaction in tuberculosis. No at tempt is made to review the large amount of work carried out in this particular field by numerous authors, as this has lately been done by Wadsworth, Maitaner, and Maltaner (1). In their study of the complement fixation reaction in tuberculosis, they report a systematic investigation into the distribution of the antigenic properties in tubercle bacillus cultures, which they found to be associated with the acetone-insoluble lipoids. While the r61e of non-specific lipoids, extracted from various tissues, in the numerous flocculation reactions devised for the serodiagnosis of syphilis, has long been recognized, the action of bacterial lipoids in a specific flocculation reaction had not been made the subject of extensive research until 1924 when Dujarric de la Rivi~re and Roux

A Specific Flocculation Reaction Occurring between Alcoholic Extracts of Pneumococci and Antipneumococcus Serum

1. A flocculation reaction has been described which occurs between alcoholic extracts of pneumococci and antipneumococcus serum. 2. The reaction appears to be species-specific. It is not strictly type-specific, as slight or moderate cross-reactions occurred between Type I serums and Type II and Type III extracts. 3. The flocculating power of the serum from five horses undergoing immunization wi...

Precipitation Reaction of SDS and Potassium Salts in Flocculation of a Micronized Megestrol Acetate Suspension

In this work attempts were made to evaluate K+-SDS and hydrocolloid polymer-SDS interactions in flocculation of megestrol acetate dispersions to enhancetheir stability as a part of suspension formulation. Different dispersions of micronized megestrol acetate and SDS were prepared. KCl and KH2PO4 and their corresponding sodium salts were added to the dispersions and the preparations were evaluat...

Mechanism of the Positive Cephalin-cholesterol Flocculation Reaction in Hepatitis.

An alteration of the blood serum proteins in patients with catarrhal jaundice has been amply established by the development of a positive cephalin flocculation (1). A standard emulsion composed of cephalin and cholesterol, which remains stable in 0.2 ml. to 0.1 ml. normal serum, diluted 1: 21, tends to flocculate and precipitate when added under identical conditions to the serum of patients wit...

Significance of Cephalin-cholesterol Flocculation Test

The effect of malarial fever on hepatic physiology has recently been investigated. It has been found (1) that considerable bromsulphthalein retention, a marked reduction in cholesterol and cholesterol esters, a moderate fall in phospholipids, diminished hippuric acid excretion and a strongly positive cephalin-cholesterol flocculation reaction resulted when malaria was induced in 9 patients by i...
